Ivor Howitt was one of the world’s first post-war recreational scuba divers and the first known in the UK. Together with his friends he formed the Amphibians’ Club in Aberdeen, Scotland, They made some intriguing experiments with home-built equipment. Later, Siebe Gorman equipment enabled them to expand their scope. In 1950 he emigrated to Australia introducing his ideas to his friends there. He and his wife Mary later moved to New Zealand where he lived until he died in 2025.
