Full Fathom Five, C Martin
Full Fathom Five, Wrecks of the Spanish Armada
Colin Martin
with appendices by Sydney Wignall
Full Fathom Five is an account of the identification and excavation of three ships which sailed in the Spanish Armada of 1588. Syd Wignall and Colin Martin, both highly experienced underwater archaeologists, believed that examining the remains might answer the questions as to why the Spanish guns were so ineffective, how good was Spanish seamanship, what part did the weather play, and what was life like for the men onboard. This is an important contribution to the study of Elizabethan naval warfare; it is also a race against time, against pirate salvagers and against a hostile sea.
