During the 1914-1918 War the vessels of the Houlder Line, Furness-Houlder Argentine Lines, Empire Transport Co Ltd and British Steam Navigation Co Ltd were fully engaged on Government Service. Their encounters with enemy submarines and acts of bravery by members of the crew provided and interesting and thrilling history. They were punished and distributed to friends and associates of the company.  When a similar situation arose during the Second World War it was recorded in the pages of this book. The casualties and dead are remembered together with each vessel, its story and crew.
