Spoils from the Sea, by J Taylor

Spoils from the Sea, The life and adventures of diver J E Johnstone
James Taylor

Diver ‘Johnno’ Johnstone of Liverpool was taught is craft at Invergordon at the outbreak of World War I in 1914. It was here that he was told that he would’ never make good as a diver’. Anticipating a slump in his occupation, he emigrated to Australia where he rapidly developed an excellent reputation. His name is linked with the Niagara, Santhia, Normandie, Wanganella and Bantam. A salty and whimsical style on the part of the author matches his subject and his narrative is punctuated with a weatlh of racy anecdotes. Many of the subsidiary characters are as lively as the unforgettable Johnno himself.
