The personal copy of William Purdo who was the Master Attendant of Portsmouth Dockyard and who answered to Admiral Hyde Parker regarding the clearance of the seabed after the removal of the wreck of the Royal George.

Purdo was promoted to RN Master in March 1807.
In August 1840 he was appointed as Queen’s Harbour Master and Master Attendant at Portsmouth Dock Yard. He retired as Commander in 1846.

A well-thumbed copy in poor condition. Cover very worn with small pieces missing from the front; most of the spine cover is missing and no back cover. Purdo has written his name at the top of the front cover.

Lists details of naval officers as well as prize agents, HM ships, dress regulations, half-pay rates, officers of hospitals and sick quarters, Royal Marines, honorary medals, pension for wounds received, semaphore, etc. Among the officers to be found in this issue are Sir. Wm Parker, Saumarez, Hargood, Byam Martin, Cockburn, Codrington, Hardy, Maitland and many other famous names.
