James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck (1740-1795) was a Scottish lawyer who travelled to London in 1762 where he met Samuel Johnson. He recorded his experiences in a diary which was found in the 1920s at Malahide Castle when it became the property of Yale University. The diary was published by McGraw Hill in 1950.
