Samuel Pepys and the Second Dutch War, ed Robert Latham

Samuel Pepys and the Second Dutch War: Pepys’s Navy White Book and Brooke House Papers
transcribed by William Matthews and Charles Knighton
edited by Robert Latham

Samuel Pepys was Clerk of the Acts to the Navy Board. His diary is a masterpiece of scholarship – readable and entertaining. The Navy White Book (a white vellum bound document kept by Pepys to record supplies) is a record of frankness. Debates and transactions are summarised in anticipation of the wrath to come at the end of the war. The second document, The Brooke House Journal deals with an investigation into the Navy’s expenditure.
The main interest of this book is the practical details view into the conduct of the Second Dutch War.
